Explaining the situation, one of the students Shiv Kumar said, “The then Chief Minister Raghubar Das had taken the decision to provide education on Police Science to the Tana Bhagat community through the Raksha Shakti University to uplift the community.
Notably, the former Chief Minister had announced the formation of the Tana Bhagat Development Authority for the development of the Tana Bhagat community. Under this authority, the benefits of schemes of various departments were to be made available to the Tana Bhagats.
Kumar further said, “In a meeting held on Nov 7, 2017 at a meeting to better the conditions of Tana Bhagats, the CM had declared that the 10th pass students of Tana Bhagat community will be enrolled in Raksha Shakti University and after one year of studies of Police Science, they would be directly recruited in the police. Diploma and Certificate courses in Police Science were even started in the university after this.”
Supposedly, the Additional Chief Secretary of the Department of Home Affairs and Disaster Management has also been apprised of the decision of the then Raghubar Das government. The results of Tana Bhagat youths, who have completed a certificate course in Police Science, were also sent to the Home Department, however still no action has been taken to benefit the said students.
Meanwhile, explaining the situation, Registrar Col Dr Rajesh Kumar said, “Two batches have completed their courses so far. However, now it is on the state government and the police department to take out vacancies related to this. Meanwhile, the VC is constantly in talks with the government about the direct appointment of students who have studied police science.”
When asked if a MoU had been signed, he said that the former CM had announced this in one of his speeches, however any kind of vacancy for the same has not been taken out yet.
Regarding informing students for placements, the registrar said that in case students have already passed out from the college, they are sent messages, while for students still in the university are informed through notices throughout the building of the vacancy and its requirements.
Notably, around 60 seats are reserved for Tana Bhagats. On these, the state government spends 27 thousand rupees every year.
