Dhanbad, Sept 16: B.Ed students of Binod Bihari Mahto Koylanchal University (BBMKU) withdrew their four days old indefinite gherao of the university after acting vice-chancellor Kamal John Lakra (commissioner North Chotanagpur Hazaribagh) announced to write off 12% fee in the current academic session.
After meeting with a delegation of agitating B.Ed students, the vice-chancellor agreed to write off 12% fee in the current session. However, the V-C said that such rebate would be given only to B.Ed students of  2019-21 session studying in constituent colleges of the university.

B.Ed students of SSLNT Women’s College, Dhanbad; RSP College, Jharia and Bokaro Steel City College, Bokaro had been on indefinite gherao of BBMKU since Saturday demanding  25% rebate on the fee due to Corona pandemic impact.

As per guidelines, BBMKU refused to give fee relaxation to those students who have got scholarships from the government. BBMKU authorities held several rounds of talks with agitating students over rebate in fee in the last four days but failed to break the ice.

“We reviewed the matter and decided to write off the 12% fee of all B.Ed students in the current academic session (2019-21). But it would not be given from next session,” said the Vice-Chancellor.

With this announcement, some of the B.Ed students who have received scholarships would get double benefits with the following rebate offered to students in fees.
