Jamshedpur, June 16: The court of first class judicial magistrate, Saudamini Singh on Friday acquitted the suspended police sub-inspector Manoj Gupta in a case of attempted murder registered with the Sonari thana in September 2018.
The court acquitted Gupta by giving him the benefit of doubt in the case which was filled by his wife Punam Gupta.
A resident of Naulakha Apartment at Kagalnagar in Sonari, Gupta had allegedly tortured his wife and attempted to murder her at their residential flat on September 4, 2018 morning following a family quarrel.
Defence lawyer Gaurav Pathak argued that the sub-inspector was then posted at Gudri thana in West Singhbhum and he was falsely implicated in the case.
Significantly, Gupta is presently lodged in the Ghaghidih Central Jail for killing his mother-in-law Seema Devi and inflicting grievous injuries to his wife Punam Gupta and brother-in-law Chandan Kumar in a shootout committed at his Sonari residence on July 26, 2019. He had used his service revolver in the murder.
The suspended sub-inspector is facing a trial in the murder case separately in a sessions court.
