Jamshedpur, June 2: A send-off ceremony was organised for a team of Special Athletes from Jharkhand which will take part in the Special Olympics World Summer Games in Berlin (Germany) scheduled between June 17-25.
The event was flagged off by Chanakya Chaudhary, Director, Tata Steel Foundation from the Sabal Centre in Jamshedpur.
A total of five athletes and two coaches from Jharkhand will be part of the Special Olympics Bharat team. Besides, Satbir Singh Sahota has been nominated as assistant head of the delegation for the Indian contingent.
The contingent from Jharkhand would participate in cycling, badminton and powerlifting events.
Special Olympics Bharat (SO Bharat) is a National Sports Federation for Development of Sports for Persons with Intellectual Disabilities, recognized by the Ministry of Sports and Youth Affairs and the nationally accredited programme of Special Olympics Inc (SOI), USA.
Special Olympics is the world’s largest sports organisation for athletes with intellectual disabilities and provides year-round training and competitions to over five million athletes across 190 countries.
More than 7000 Special Olympics Athletes and Unified Partners from 190 nations gather in Berlin Germany during the Special Olympics World Summer Games.
Approximately 200 Athletes and Unified partners and 60 Coaches will be participating from SO Bharat.
