Dhanbad, April 25: Tata Steel Jharia Colliery division has set up a Continuous Ambient Air Quality Monitoring System (CAAQMS) in its Sijua Area for measurement of air quality in the region.
This is the second CAAQMS device installed in the Jharia division of Tata Steel. The first one was installed in Jamadoba Area.
Sanjay Rajoria, general manager of Tata Steel Jharia Colliery division, while inaugurating the ambitious device to bail out the residents from coal dust related air pollution, said that the installation of CAAQMS will ensure continuous measurement of ambient air quality of the region and its feedback will help to make the right decision in the right direction to maintain the air quality in the area.

“Tata Steel has modelled its sustainability initiatives not only to reduce its own ecological footprint but also to inspire others to go beyond the regulatory regime and bring positive gains in bettering its surrounding. CAAQMS is yet another initiative that will add to our goal of being a responsible miner,” he said.
He said that besides the air quality monitoring system, the management has also focused on plantation drive in the region to maintain pollution levels in the region under control.
The residents of Tata Steel Jharia colliery division lease out area especially inhabitants of Sijua Area highly appreciate the step of Tata Steel Jharia division management in installing the device.
“No doubt in comparison to Bharat Coking Coal Limited (BCCL) Bastis, the pollution level in the residential area of Tata Steel colliery is better. But this device would help even common villagers to know about pollution level,” said a resident of the Bhelatand area.
NK Gupta, chief of Sijua Group, Mayank Shekhar, chief of Jamadoba Group, Raj Ankur, head of planning & environment), Sanjay Singh, president Rashtriya Colliery Mazdoor Union, Subhas Verma, Mahmood Alam, Nayan Chand Mahato, union president, Bhelatand Colliery were present in the inauguration function.
