New Delhi: Congress MP Shashi Tharoor has praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s televised address following the India-Pakistan conflict, calling it a much-needed and well-executed communication in a time of national crisis. He also extended full marks to the planning and execution of Operation Sindoor, calling it a “sophisticated military response” to Pakistan-sponsored terrorism.
‘PM Looked Nation In The Eye’
Speaking to NDTV, Tharoor said the Prime Minister did the right thing by addressing the country. “We needed him to speak when war or national emergencies strike. He looked the nation square in the eye,” Tharoor said. He noted that such addresses should become a norm during crises.
‘Operation Sindoor Was Meticulously Planned’
Tharoor applauded Operation Sindoor, India’s counter-offensive launched in response to the Pahalgam terror attack. “From its naming to execution and messaging, it was precise and impactful,” he said. “Pakistan now knows that India will respond with consequences if provoked.”
PM Quoted Tharoor’s Words
Interestingly, Tharoor revealed that a line from his Indian Express article — “This is not an era of terrorism either” — found its way into PM Modi’s speech, adding a touch of irony and bipartisan alignment. “I was chuffed,” said the Congress MP, acknowledging the credit.
Denial Is Pakistan’s Default
On Pakistan’s disinformation campaign and denial of involvement in Pahalgam, Tharoor remained critical. “Denial is their modus operandi — just like they denied Osama’s presence or 26/11,” he said. He urged Indian agencies to hunt down the identified terrorists behind the April 22 attack “no matter how long it takes.”
Global Messaging Still Lags
Tharoor cautioned that while the PM’s message to the Indian public was clear, the international narrative may still be influenced by Pakistani propaganda. “We need our media and diplomats to amplify our story abroad — in their language, on their channels.”
India’s Next Step Must Be Justice
He concluded by stressing the need to bring Pahalgam’s attackers to justice, saying, “India’s self-respect demands it.”
