Kupwara: Three Indian Army soldiers were injured on Saturday during an exchange of fire with terrorists near the Kumkadi post in the Trehgam sector of Kupwara district, according to reports from PTI.

This incident is the fourth encounter in Kupwara within the past month, highlighting the escalating tensions along the Line of Control (LoC) in north Kashmir.

Earlier this week, on Wednesday, a terrorist was killed and a non-commissioned officer (NCO) was injured during a firefight in Kupwara. The Army, in a post on X, detailed that the exchange of fire occurred during a joint search operation conducted with the Jammu and Kashmir Police, following specific intelligence on the presence of terrorists.

Prior to this, security forces foiled an infiltration attempt in Kupwara’s Keran sector, resulting in the deaths of two terrorists. On July 14, three terrorists were killed in another foiled infiltration bid in the same sector.

Amid these recurring confrontations, Chief of Army Staff General Upendra Dwivedi visited the LoC in Kupwara on Thursday. During his visit, General Dwivedi reviewed the security situation, interacted with the troops and officers, and commended their efforts in addressing security challenges.

“General Upendra Dwivedi #COAS, visited the forward locations of #ChinarCorps & reviewed the security situation along the Line of Control #LOC. He also interacted with the Commanders and troops on ground. #COAS lauded All Ranks for maintaining high standards of professionalism & exhorted them to remain steadfast in meeting emerging #security challenges,” the Army’s Chinar Corps wrote on X.

The recent surge in encounters underscores the persistent threat of terrorism in the region and the ongoing efforts of the Indian Army to maintain security and thwart infiltration attempts along the LoC.
