The announcement comes two days after Punjab BJP officials met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi on Sunday and presented him with a memorandum urging that the Kartarpur Corridor be reopened to Pakistan.
Covid-19 limits might include social distancing, double vaccination, RT-PCR tests within 72 hours, and a limit on the number of people exposed.
Due to the pandemic, the Kartarpur Corridor, which opened in November 2019, has been blocked since March 2020. The restoration of the corridor could pay political dividends in Punjab, which goes to the polls early next year.
Pakistan had requested India last week to restore the Kartarpur Corridor so that Sikh pilgrims may visit the sacred shrine for Guru Nanak Dev’s birth anniversary celebrations. Indian Sikh pilgrims can visit Gurdwara Darbar Sahib without needing a visa because of the 4 km-long corridor.
