New Delhi, Jan 21: Swati Maliwal, the head of the Delhi Commission for Women (DCW), responded angrily to claims that the entire dragging incident was staged. Maliwal claims that she was harassed and pulled for 10-15 metres by a drunk motorist after her hand became stuck in his car window at 3 a.m. on Thursday.

On Saturday, she referred to the accusations as ‘dirty falsehoods’ and vowed to continue fighting until she died.

“Let me tell those who think that they will scare me by telling dirty lies about me. I have done many big things in this short life by tying a shroud on my head. I was attacked many times but I did not stop. With every atrocity, the fire inside me grew stronger. No one can suppress my voice. I will keep fighting as long as I am alive!,” She tweeted.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) reportedly questioned Maliwal’s sting operation on Friday and claimed that the entire episode was a plot to discredit Delhi Police. According to Delhi BJP leader Virendra Sachdeva, the cab driver at Sangam Vihar in South Delhi is a well-known AAP activist. The driver, who is 47, was detained in relation to the incident.

According to the authorities, when Maliwal reprimanded the driver for inviting her to sit in his car, Harish Chandra, he abruptly swung open the glass window. The driver turned around and drove back in the constrained parallel lane after initially driving off.

The DCW chief said she was inspecting the state of women’s security in Delhi along with her team in wake of the Kanjhawla hit-and-drag incident in which a 20-year-old woman was dragged to death while trapped under a car in the national capital.

After a video of the incident surfaced, several BJP leaders hit out at Maliwal, an AAP appointee.

BJP leader Shazia Ilmi tweeted that Maliwal’s ‘drama’ has been exposed.

BJP MP Manoj Tiwari put allegations and said, “This is the same Harish, who was driving the car. You can guess how close this person is to AAP MLA Prakash Jarwal by looking at this photo.”

He further also added that “Now if this is a partner, then it means that the whole incident is like a fake sting, which has been done with a private channel. This is a shocking matter for Delhi.”
