Daltonganj, October 28: Town police heaved a sigh of relief when they caught the woman drug peddler, Ajanti Devi, after four hours of her escape from the isolation ward of the covid care center at Medinirai medical college hospital (MMCH) in Daltonganj today.
Officer in-charge of the town police station, A K Mahatha, has confirmed the recovery of escapee Ajanti Devi within hours of her fleeing.
Ajanti Devi had changed her robe and had a dupatta doubling as her face mask. She was about to reach Mahindra arcade when cops on her trail identified and located her and later brought her to the town police station.
She didn’t put up any resistance. She submitted herself to the police meekly and confused, said the sources.
Mahatha said that he himself visited the isolation ward to ascertain as to how Ajanti Devi managed to escape. She hopped from roof to roof to escape and then walked down towards the congested localities of Kund mohalla and Pahari mohalla from where she was to hire an auto rickshaw for Chaumuhan and Mahindra arcade.
He added that it did not take him any long to understand in which direction or locality she would have run for cover.
Ajanti Devi preferred congested localities to hide herself in the crowd but she had a change of mind and that landed her in the police net again.
Mahatha said “Our boys and others were out and we got a tip-off about her being seen near the Mahindra arcade and there they found and caught her.”
Since Ajanti Devi has been tested covid negative through True Nat test, now she will be forwarded to the judicial remand today, said the police.
