New Delhi, Oct.25: The 67th National Film Awards are being awarded in person today at New Delhi’s Vigyan Bhawan, as announced earlier this year. The Guest Of Honour was director Nitesh Ranjan Agnihotri. He was one of the first celebrities to walk the red carpet, among the award juries and the Dadasaheb Phalke Award jury. One of the panel members, actor Biswajit Chatterjee, said Rajinikanth was chosen for the award because he is a “brilliant” and “down to earth” person. Nitesh Tiwari, the director of Chhicchore, and Sajid Nadiadwala, the producer, dedicated the Best Film Award to Sushant Singh Rajput, who died last year. They said that the late actor will always remain an “integral part of the film.”
Vice President Venkaiah Naidu will present the rewards to the winners. Today’s occasion will see Rajinikanth get his Dadasaheb Phalke Award. The winners were announced in March of this year, with late actor Sushant Singh Rajput’s film Chhichhore receiving Best Hindi Film and Kangana Ranaut won her third Best Actress award for her roles in Manikarnika (2019) and Panga (2019). (2020). For their respective roles in Bhonsle and Asuran, which also won Best Tamil Film, Manoj Bajpayee and Dhanush shared the Best Actor award.
Other dignitaries in attendance were Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting Anurag Thakur and Union Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting L Murugan.
The 67th National Awards were postponed from last year due to the global coronavirus pandemic that wreaked havoc on the global economy last year.
