India reports third case of Monkeypox in Kerala

New Delhi, July 22: India reported its third case of monkeypox when a 35-year-old man, who came to Kerala from UAE earlier this month tested positive.

The Malappuram native landed in the southern state on July 6, according to health minister Veena George, and was receiving treatment at the Manjeri Medical College there. She said that his condition is stable. The minister added that everyone who has touched with the patient directly is being strictly watched.

“Country’s third monkeypox confirmed in a 35-yr-old man who returned to Mallapuram from UAE on July 6th. He was admitted with fever at Manjerry Medical College Hospital on the 13th and on 15th he began showing symptoms. His family and close contacts are under observation,” said Kerala Health Minister.

Meanwhile, Kerala was placed on high alert after the discovery of a second monkeypox case. Karnataka, a neighbouring state, has also made the decision to intensify monitoring efforts and maintain a high level of vigilance.
