Patna, Aug 28: Sexual assault allegations made by residents of yet another shelter home in Bihar resulted in the arrest of the state-run care home’s in-charge, police said on Sunday.

Following his arrest on Saturday, the superintendent of the Gaighat shelter house was brought before a court and ordered to judicial detention.

“A Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been constituted to look into complaints of physical abuse. In statements recorded before a magistrate under Section 164 of CrPC, three girls complained of sexual abuse. A few more said they were often beaten up by the superintendent,” Manavjeet Singh Dhillon, Senior Superintendent of Police(SSP), Patna, told PTI.

“Nonetheless, we are trying to probe deeper with the help of whatever information we have,” the SSP added.

Notably, the state has been in the news because of the notorious Muzaffarpur shelter home incident, which was revealed in a social audit carried out by Mumbai’s Tata Institute of Social Sciences.

Following a significant uproar, the state’s Nitish Kumar administration requested a CBI investigation, social welfare minister Manju Verma resigned, and then-Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh addressed Parliament with a statement.

Brajesh Thakur, the primary culprit, was ultimately given a life sentence by the court after the case’s trial was finally moved to Delhi.
