Dhanbad, Dec 29: Three MBBS seats in medical colleges of Jharkhand out of 450 remained vacant in the 2022 academic session of the National Medical Commission (NMC).
After the ‘Stray Round’counselling which concluded at 5 pm on Wednesday (the last date of NMC), a total of 447 students out of 450 were admitted to State government-owned five medical colleges.
Two seats of the state quota and one seat of the All India quota were left unfilled in three medical colleges.
As per the official record, one seat each remained vacant in Shahid Nirmal Mahto Medical College Hospital (SNMMCH) Dhanbad, Sheikh Bhikhari Medical College Hospital (SBMCH) Hazaribagh and Phulo Jhano Medical College (PJMCH) Dumka.
SNMMCH Dhanbad has 50 MBBS seat permission while PJMCH Dumka and SBMCH Hazaribagh have 100 MBBS seat consent from NMC in the 2022 academic session.
SBMCH Hazaribagh principal Dr SK Singh said that a total of 99 students out of 100 MBBS seats took admission till the last date. One seat (reserved for the handicapped) of the state quota (Jharkhand Combined Entrance Competitive Examination Board) remained vacant.
At SNMMCH, only 49 students out of 50 took admission. One seat of JCECEB reserved for the handicapped was left vacant.
Admission in-charge Dr Ganesh Kumar said that though the selected student appeared for admission, he failed to produce a proper certificate. Unofficial sources said the student belonged to the Jamtara district of the state.
“He had brought a certificate of Union Ministry Social Justice and Empowerment while in Jharkhand only certificates of Civil Surgeon office are applicable. The college gave him time till 5 pm on Wednesday to submit the certificate of Civil Surgeon but he failed. So, one seat was left vacant,” said Dr Ganesh Kumar.
At PJMCH Dumka too 99 students out of 100 took admission till the last date. One seat of the All India Quota remained vacant. The student had come but he had no proper certificate.
However, all seats at two other institutions – Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Medical College Hospital (MGMMCH) Jamshedpur and Medinirai Medical College Hospital (MMCH) Palamu were filled up.
MGMMCH principal Dr KN Singh said that 83 seats of JCECEB, 15 of All India quota and 2 seats of the central government nominees took admission before completion of Stray Round.
MMCH admission in-charge Prof (Dr) Atul Prakash also said seats (100) filled up in his institution at the scheduled time of admission fixed by NMC.
