Ranchi, Feb 26: A ‘Walk for Clean Air’ was organised on Sunday at Morabadi by Clean Air Hub in an effort to spread awareness against air pollution.
Notably, the members of Clean Air Hub conducted a mass awareness campaign for 2 km in Morabadi which started from Bapu Vatika. As per information, Walk for Clean Air is a new initiative in Ranchi. Through this, citizen participation is set to be ensured to increase public awareness towards air cleanliness. This will increase awareness among common people about air pollution and polluting sources. It also fosters a sense of community responsibility to support the city’s air quality improvement efforts.
The people participating in the Walk shared information about the basics of air quality and discussed the AQI, PM10 through sensors and methods of their calculation. Along with this, people were also made aware of the ways to avoid air pollution and what they can do to reduce the risk. During this Walk, morning walkers were given information about how to file a complaint on the government’s grievance redressal portal about air pollution.
Hussain Imam Fatmi of the Clean Air Hub said, “In urban life, it becomes difficult to focus on any particular thing. People are often in a hurry to go to work or school and do not pay attention to the various sources of pollution, most of which are scattered sources. Scattered sources are also majorly responsible for the poor air quality of the city which are often ignored. This is because it is difficult to monitor them. Government also operates Public Grievance Redressal Portal (PGRP) for redressal of grievances, but it cannot be useful without the participation of common people.”
Meanwhile, Binod Kumar of Clean Air Hub said, “This walk can also play an important role in ensuring community participation in maintaining air quality in the future. Prakash Kumar of Urban Farming, Sushma Pandey of Spark Sanstha, Rajan Kumar of SGBhibhi Sanstha, Shahnawaz of Earth Idea led the walk along with several educationists participated in this walk on Sunday. This walk will continue on the next Sunday as well.”
