New Delhi: Defence Minister Rajnath Singh chaired the fifth meeting of the Informal Group of Ministers (IGoM) in Delhi on Monday to review risks to India’s energy supply chains and availability of essential goods amid the ongoing West Asia conflict.

Focus on Supply Chain Risks

The meeting, attended by Union Minister Kiren Rijiju and several other ministers, discussed challenges arising from the West Asia crisis and deliberated on potential solutions to safeguard domestic supply chains. Rajnath Singh said the government under PM Modi’s leadership is doing commendable work to ensure the supply of all essential goods and urged citizens to remain calm and avoid panic.

Rajnath Endorses PM Modi’s Savings Appeal

Rajnath Singh highlighted PM Modi’s recent appeal to citizens to save energy and reduce unnecessary expenditure, calling it an important step toward self-reliance and energy security. He said the Prime Minister’s message about conservation during difficult global conditions carries significant weight and that collective public participation will help the country navigate global disruptions and challenges.

What PM Modi Had Said

PM Modi had made the appeal during an event in Telangana on Sunday, noting that US-Iran tensions and the situation around the Strait of Hormuz could impact global economies and oil markets. He asked citizens to reduce petrol, diesel, and gas consumption, use public transport wherever possible, adopt carpooling, and avoid private vehicles for short distances to reduce India’s dependence on foreign oil.
