Bengaluru, Feb 13: In the midst of the hijab controversy, the Karnataka government stated that schools up to tenth grade will resume on Monday across the state.

Basavaraj Bommai, the chief minister of Karnataka, made the declaration amid the heated hijab issue that has engulfed the southern state.

“I’ve instructed the DCs, SPs and school administrations to conduct a peace committee meeting. Schools for higher classes and degree colleges will re-open after reviewing the situation,” said chief minister in Hubbali.

Despite the Karnataka High Court’s interim decision, which recommended that the schools and colleges be reopened, the Bommai government delayed their reopening.

Notably, the Karnataka High Court issued an interim order on Thursday prohibiting students from wearing hijab or any religious attire until further orders are issued. On Monday, the supreme court will continue hearings.

Meanwhile, the state of Karnataka has outlawed all protests near educational institutions. In fact, police officers held a flag march in Udupi on Friday to avoid a flare-up in the aftermath of the high court’s temporary order.
