Dhanbad, May 23: Controversy shows no sign of an end at Dhanbad’s Binod Bihari Mahto Koylanchal University (BBMKU) administration.
While the dust on PhD cell formation is yet to settle, the notification for constituting the Department of Research Council (DRC) for the department of chemistry has stoked another controversy in the academic circle of the university.
BBMKU registrar Vikash Kumar has issued a notification for constituting the DRC of the chemistry department under the dean of faculty of science, Dr SK Sinha. In the committee, the university head of the department of chemistry Dr Leelawati Kumari has been ignored while two of her juniors have been made members.
As per the notification of the registrar ( lagatar24.com has a copy of the notification), in the four-member Council, Dr RP Singh (university department of chemistry), Dr DK Singh (university department of chemistry) and the supervisor of the concerned candidate have been added invited members besides Dr SK Sinha. Dr DK Singh is the Member Secretary.
On the matter of Dr Leelawati Kumari not being included in the council, a senior teacher of the university said that it is nothing but a joke on the part of university authorities. Dr Leelawati deserves to be the chairman of the council but she did not even get a berth in it. He said such a thing has not happened in any university in the state so far.
Binod Bihari Mahto Koylanchal University Teachers Association (BBMKUTA) has termed this as an insult to the senior teacher and the creation of bad traditions by the university authority.
BBMKUTA spokesperson Dr Jitendra Aryan said that excluding Dr Leelawati Kumari from the Department of Research Council by university authorities is surprising, a joke and an insult.
“Teachers Association condemns this move in strong words and would not accept the insult of a teacher at any cost. We urge the vice-chancellor Dr Mukul Narayan Dev to fix the careless decision by the concerned officer and take action against him,” he said.
The teachers’ association also pointed out that two registrars are working in the university but whenever a notification is issued, it has to be amended every time. Almost two notifications have to be issued on every matter by the university.
“They should relinquish the post if they find themselves unable to discharge responsibility properly,” said Dr Aryan.
Earlier, the notification of the university on PhD cell had rocked the academic circle. A 2008 batch teacher Dr KM Singh was made the coordinator of the Cell while 1996 batch teacher Dr Leelawati Kumari was made a member. Senior teachers of the university had opposed this move vehemently. One of the members Dr Himanshu Shekhar Choudhary duly resigned from the Cell citing ‘Conflict of Interest’.
University authority first issued notification for a four-member PhD Cell and four days later released the amended notification of a five-member Cell.
The names of Dr Jay Gopal Mandal (university Bangla language department) and Dr Munmun Sharan (university department of Economics) were figured in the first notification but in the revised notification, their names were missing.
