Dhanbad, Oct 12: A section of retired and active senior professors of Binod Bihari Mahto Koylanchal University (BBMKU) have alleged that the new vice-chancellor (V-C) Sukhdeo Bhoi has violated statutes of Law College Dhanbad by appointing Tundi JMM MLA Mathura Prasad Mahto as the president of the recently formed ad-hoc committee in place of Dhanbad Sadar MLA Raj Sinha.
The senior professors of the university pointed out that according to the Law College statutes, only the concerned area’s MLA/MP could be a member (president) of the ad-hoc committee. The college falls in the Sadar assembly area and Raj Sinha is the MLA of that area.
“As per the statutes, the VC can constitute a committee of the institution (Law College) only after getting the approval of the Syndicate. But he did not do that. Moreover, first, he should have requested MLA Raj Sinha to withdraw his resignation. If MLA Sinha would not have agreed, the university should have made Dhanbad MP PN Singh the president,” said a senior professor.
The senior teachers further said that JMM MLA Mathura Prasad Mahto is of course the best choice as president and other members of the new ad-hoc committee too including secretary Dr Himanshu Shekhar Choudhary, but on the technical ground, selection of the Tundi MLA is wrong.
“There would not have been any objection had the vice-chancellor made Sindri MLA Indrajit Mahto the president as the institution is close to the Sindri assembly segment,” they added.
Dhanbad Sadar MLA Raj Sinha resigned from the post of Law College ad-hoc committee on September 13 after a dispute with the secretary over the selection of a principal. The MLA said that at the request of Law College founder member Rajkishore Mahto (former Tundi MLA), he accepted the post but after his death, he did not want to continue for long.
“BBMKU is only five-year-old. In the last three months, statutes and regulations of institutions are being violated since new vice-chancellor Sukhdeo Bhoi assumed the charge. The University got its first finance officer (FO) in March 2022 but the VC got him removed in six months as he allegedly refused to sign on the wrong bills at the meeting,” said one of the senior teachers requesting anonymity. The removal of the first FO in six months had triggered gossip in the university.
