Patna, March 23: A number of Manish Kashyap’s fans gathered in Patna’s Kargil Chowk on Thursday, near the Gandhi Maidan to express their opposition to the YouTuber’s detention. Kashyap was detained after posting a fictitious video showing migrant labourers from Bihar being beaten up in Tamil Nadu.
To protest the YouTuber’s arrest, a bandh was called for that day across the whole state. When Chief Minister Nitish Kumar was supposed to attend a function close to the protest location, the district police clamped down on the supporters who gathered at the Kargil Chowk before their agitation could acquire momentum.
Even as the agitators yelled chants critical of the Nitish-Kumar-led Bihar administration, the protestors were taken into custody by the district police and placed into a police vehicle.
Detained protestors criticised the state administration for handling the matter in an unfair manner. A protester who was apprehended and taken inside a police vehicle said that Chief Minister Nitish Kumar was abusing the force to silence the public’s opinions.
After reportedly uploading a video that received over a thousand views and falsely claimed to show migrant workers from Bihar being harassed in Tamil Nadu, Manish Kashyap was charged with spreading fear. Nitish Kumar, the chief minister of Bihar, responded by requesting an investigation into the occurrence.
