New Delhi, Aug 23: In the new curriculum framework developed by the Ministry of Education, board exams will be conducted twice a year with the option for students to retain the best score, and students in classes 11 and 12 will now be required to study two languages rather than one.

Ministry officials have stated that the curriculum aligned with the guidelines of the New Education Policy (NEP) has been finalized, and textbooks will be created in accordance with these guidelines for the academic session beginning in 2024.

This new framework for board exams are applicable to students of Class 11 and Class 12. “Board exams will be offered at least twice a year to ensure students have enough time and opportunity to perform well. Students can then appear for a board exam in subjects they have completed and feel ready for. They will also be allowed to retain the best score,” the Ministry of Education said in its new curriculum framework.

“In classes 11 and 12, students will have to study two languages and one of them has to be an Indian language,” the final NCF (National Curriculum Framework) document said.

Additionally, students will have the freedom to choose subjects in classes 11 and 12 without being constrained by streams (like arts, science, or commerce).

Instead of depending on months of coaching and memorization, the new framework encourages evaluating students’ understanding and competency. This approach that prioritizes the needs of students aims to provide learners with a more profound understanding of subjects and practical abilities.
