Washington: A stunning claim has emerged from a new book by renowned journalists Maggie Haberman and Jonathan Swan, alleging that US Vice President JD Vance had suggested that India send troops to Ukraine, only for President Donald Trump to dismiss the idea with laughter.
What Happened in the Meeting
According to excerpts from the book Regime Change, a meeting was underway in the US regarding the deployment of peacekeeping troops to Ukraine. A proposal was made to send soldiers from NATO countries including France, Britain, and the Netherlands. Vance expressed concern that deploying NATO troops could provoke Russia and risk drawing America directly into the conflict.
Vance Suggested Saudi Arabia and India as Alternatives
To avoid NATO involvement, Vance suggested seeking help from non-European countries and named Saudi Arabia and India as potential options for sending troops to Ukraine.
Trump Laughed and Dismissed the Idea
According to Haberman and Swan, Trump burst out laughing upon hearing Vance’s suggestion, sarcastically remarking that Indians would never do something like that and would not loosen their pockets for such a cause. The authors also claim Trump mentioned PM Modi, saying Modi likes him very much and had wanted to come and meet him. Trump reportedly said he had no problem with British or French soldiers being sent to Ukraine, but simply did not want America to be directly involved.
Trump Calls Zelensky a ‘Terrible Negotiator’
During the same meeting, Trump also targeted Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, calling him a terrible negotiator who had brought his country to the brink of complete destruction by failing to negotiate properly.
