Jamshedpur, May 10: Cyclone Asani, which originated from the Bay of Bengal and moved northwestwards, has impacted Jharkhand’s weather resulting in cloud formation at several places in southern and central parts of the state.
Weathermen issued an alert of thundershowers and lightning with a surface wind speed of 40 to 50 km per hour in several parts of the state during the next 72 hours.
According to information, thundershowers and lightning is expected mostly in southern, central and northeastern parts of Jharkhand.
The severe cyclonic storm Asani over west-central and adjoining south Bay of Bengal moved nearly northwestwards with a speed of 25 kmph and lay centred over the same region, near latitude 14.0°N and longitude 86.0°E, about 920 km northwest of Car Nicobar (Nicobar Islands), 770 km west-northwest of Port Blair (Andaman Islands), 500 km southeast of Visakhapatnam (Andhra Pradesh) and 650 km south of Puri (Odisha).
It is very likely to move northwestwards till today and reach west-central and adjoining northwest Bay of Bengal off North Andhra Pradesh and Odisha coasts. Thereafter, it is very likely to recurve northeastwards and move towards the northwest Bay of Bengal off the Odisha coast.
The system is likely to weaken gradually into a cyclonic storm during the next 48 hours.
According to IMD’s Ranchi Met Centre, another cyclonic circulation lies over East Uttar Pradesh and neighbourhood at 5.8 Km above mean sea level.
Today, light to moderate rain or thunderstorm is likely at isolated places over the north-east, south and central parts of the state.
On May 11 and 12 light to moderate rain or thunderstorm are likely at a few places over the north-east, south and central parts of the state. Rain and thundershowers activity will continue beyond May 12 due to local activity.
