Ranchi, June 2: Jharkhand chief minister Hemant Soren today expressed his solidarity with Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal who reached Jharkhand accompanied by Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann in order to seek support against the central government’s ordinance that nullifies the Supreme Court constitution bench verdict and wrest control of services from the Delhi government.
Soren declared the same, organizing a joint press conference at his official residence, addressing Kejriwal as ‘Bade Bhai’.
Soren said he will also discuss the matter with his father and JMM supremo and Rajya Sabha member Shibu Soren. He justified his support to Kejriwal saying the BJP government in the centre is not allowing democratically elected non-BJP governmens to work and thus attacking the federal structure of the democracy in India.
Earlier, Kejriwal sharing his strategy to seek support against the ordinance said that his aim is to stop the ordinance getting passed by the Rajya Sabha where it will be brought in the monsoon session after one and half months. He said it is possible as the BJP has only 93 of 238 members in the Rajya Sabha.
The Delhi chief minister said that he will seek support of everyone including the BJP and thr Congress besides other parties as the ordinance is an attack on the federal structure and an attempt to deprive the democratically elected government of its power.
Kejriwal termed his action as a ‘war of independence’ and said there is no question that political parties not supporting it when people take it is an issue.
Mann echoed Kejriwal saying “Desh Kisi Ke Baap Ki Jaagir Nahi” as it came into existence after the sacrifice of several freedom fighters across the country. He said it is war to establish supremacy of the elected person over the selected person in democracy.
The ordinance against which the campaign is going on reads “Union of India recognising the legislative and executive powers of the National Capital Territory of Delhi over “services”, the Union Government promulgated the Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi (Amendment) Ordinance, 2023 which nullifies the effect of the Constitution Bench verdict.”
The ordinance was brought a week after the Supreme Court delivered the judgment in Government of NCT of Delhi v. Union of India recognising the legislative and executive powers of the National Capital Territory of Delhi over “services”.
