New Delhi, July 27: In the hit-and-run case where a 20-year-old woman was dragged to death while pinned beneath a car in the national capital on New Year’s Day, a sessions court here on Thursday ordered the filing of charges against seven accused.

Additional Sessions Judge Neeraj Gaur has directed the framing of charges against Amit Khanna, Krishan, Manoj Mittal, and Mithun, who were in the car involved in the incident. They will be charged under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) including 302 (murder), 120 B (criminal conspiracy), 201 (causing disappearance of evidence of offence or giving false information to screen offender), and 212 (harbouring offender). Additionally, Amit Khanna is also facing charges of negligent driving.

The court discharged Ashutosh Bhardwaj, Ankush, and Deepak Khanna from the charge of criminal conspiracy, but it directed the initiation of charges against them under IPC sections 182 (false information with intent to cause public servant to use his lawful power to the injury of another person), 34 (common intention), 201, and 212.

ASJ Gaur scheduled the matter for the formal framing of charges on August 14.  On January 2, police detained Deepak Khanna, Amit Khanna, Krishan, Mithun, and Manoj Mittal in connection with the incident.

Later, a metropolitan magistrate’s court granted bail to co-accused Ashutosh Bhardwaj and Ankush, and on May 13, the present court also provided relief to Deepak Khanna.

On April 1, the Delhi Police filed an 800-page charge sheet against the seven accused, and a sessions court was then assigned to hear the case.
