Deoghar, July 12: A sea of people surged in the temple town of Deoghar which is home to the famous Babadham temple, to have a glimpse of Prime Minister Narendra Modi who inaugurated the newly built Airport and AIIMS including over two dozens of development schemes here on Tuesday.
The Prime Minister also paid offerings at the Baidyanathdham temple and addressed a mammoth gathering at Deoghar college ground after the inaugural event of the development projects worth over Rs 16,000 crore meant for Jharkhand and neighbouring Bihar right at the airport.
“It is due to the grace of the Lord Shiva that the development of Jharkhand is being scripted from Deoghar in terms of the inauguration and foundation laying of projects worth over Rs 16000 crores,” the PM said in his address, adding that those projects would pave the way for the overall development of the state.
He further stated that his government stood from the very beginning that the development of the country could be ensured only by developing the states to which steps were already taken.
“Unlike others (read Congress) we believe in the practice to lay the foundation stones of only those schemes to be inaugurated by ourselves as in the case of Deoghar airport the foundation of which was laid by me four years back,” the PM said, adding that all those projects particularly the airport and AIIMS which were the long cherished dream of a vast section of people of this area, would go a long way to boost religious and medical tourism side by side.
Addressing the inaugural function of the Deoghar airport, the PM said that the facility would felicitate five lakh people to opt smooth traveling annually and create opportunities for employment and self employment in terms of opening up new avenues for them.
He further said that the projects are being launched in Deoghar but a vast area of Bihar, Bengal and rest of the parts would be benefitting from them.
Apart from the crowd gathered at Deoghar college ground, an equal number of people including school and college students waited for hours by patiently waiting for the Prime Minister along the route between Deoghar airport and Babadham temple and showered flower petals on his cavalcade.
Later, the PM spent about half an hour in the Baidyanathdham temple which is one of the dwadasa jyotirlingas, where he performed Puja of the Lord Shiva being assisted by a group of local priests.
Chief Minister Hemant Soren who along with his cabinet colleagues, including Badal Patrakekh and Hafizul Hassan also attended the inaugural event of the development projects, gifted him the replica of the Babadham temple as momento.
The event also marked the commencement of regular flights from Deoghar with the Indigo 6 E 7939 flight having made its maiden landing at the newly built Airport carrying over sixty passengers from Kolkata, including Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia.
“It was as if a long cherished dream was fulfilled to land at the airport in my hometown,” Roshni Keshri, a local events organiser said after coming out from the airport who had reached Kolkata with a view to take the maiden flight.
