Dhanbad, Sept 29: The Additional chief secretary (ACS) of the Department of Health and Family Welfare Arun Kumar Singh said on Thursday that the promotion of teachers of all the five medical colleges of the state would take place within the next seven to 10 days.
Singh, who was talking with media persons at Shahid Nirmal Mahto Medical College Hospital (SNMMCH), said that the promotion of the teachers of all five medical colleges is pending for a long time. All eligible teachers who are assistant professors would be promoted to associate professors and associate professors would become professors as per the guidelines of the National Medical Commission (NMC).
“Government has decided to promote all teachers of medical colleges and in this regard, notification would be issued shortly in seven to 10 days,” informed Arun Kumar Singh.
Moreover, he said that deficiencies of senior faculty members in medical colleges of the state are in cognizance of government. Efforts are on to fill up the vacant posts in all five institutions as soon as possible.
Notably, advertisements have been issued to enrol associate professors and professors on a contract basis. Getting an application appointment would be made duly.
Arun Kumar Singh, in his maiden visit to SNMMCH Dhanbad after assuming the health department, expressed concern that some faculty in Dhanbad’s medical colleges are closed due to the absence of teachers.
“Since SNMMCH is one of the oldest medical colleges and it is a matter of concern that some faculties are closed. However, I hope all will be streamlined soon,” he said.
He added that the government expects all doctors and health staff should work with clear intentions of how to improve health services in hospitals in the interest of patients.
Arun Kumar Singh, along with Dhanbad deputy commissioner (DC) Sandip Singh, inspected SNMMCH’s all wards and blocks and resented the poor condition of sanitation and facility in different wards.
He himself clicked photos of hospital wards condition on his mobile phone and sought an explanation from the superintendent.
“It is really sad things that patients in the hospital of this medical college have to bring a fan, bed sheets and food in the ward. I selected SNMMCH as the first medical college in the state to visit and I am disappointed to find the status. However, I hope all would be improved,” he said.
Besides inspection of all wards of the hospital, ACS discussed with principal Jyotiran Prasad and superintendent AK Barnbal over improvement in service.
Earlier ACS reached Dhanbad in the afternoon and inspected Dhanbad Sadar hospital for restoring more facilities.
