Trump-Modi Relationship
The personal rapport between Donald Trump and Narendra Modi was notably strong during Trump’s presidency (2017-2021), marked by high-profile events like the “Howdy Modi” rally in Houston and the “Namaste Trump” event in India. Their partnership helped solidify US-India strategic ties, particularly in areas of defense and security cooperation, as both leaders shared concerns about countering China’s growing influence in the region.
Trump also made significant efforts to engage with the Indian-American community during his time in office, recognizing its importance in US politics. The foundations laid during his presidency continue to underpin the strong US-India relationship today.
PM Modi’s US Visit Agenda
PM Modi’s visit to the United States will be filled with high-level engagements. Besides attending the Quad Leaders’ Summit in Wilmington on September 21, he will address the ‘Summit of the Future’ at the UN General Assembly in New York on September 23, which will focus on “Multilateral Solutions for a Better Tomorrow.”
During the visit, Modi will also meet with CEOs of leading US companies to discuss collaborations in emerging technologies like artificial intelligence, quantum computing, semiconductors, and biotechnology. Additionally, he will interact with the Indian diaspora and thought leaders in New York.
