August 13, 2022: Salkhan Murmu, a former MP and National President of the Adivasi Sengel Abhiyan, has sought stern action against Ranchi Sadar SDO Deepak Dubey in a letter to President Droupadi Murmu, accusing him of making “biased, arbitrary, indiscreet, unjust, and anti-tribal decision by neglecting the law.”
Murmu has provided an evidence to back up his demand, claiming that the relevant SDO denied him permission to hold a rally in the Jharkhand capital on April 30 but permitted another rally on May 5.
“Adivasi Sengel Abhiyan, a tribal mass organization, had announced plans to organize Santali Rajbhasha Jan Sabha on April 30, 2022 at Morhabadi ground in Ranchi. In which almost all the Santal tribal MPs, MLAs, Ministers and Chief Ministers of the country besides other prominent figures were invited in writing. For this purpose, on 18th April 2022 at your Rairangpur residence, you were also invited to attend Santali Rajbhasha Rally, Ranchi. Letters regarding permission for public meeting in the field were provided by us on 21.2.2022, 6.4.2022 and 20.4.2022. Deputy Commissioner of Ranchi also assured the representatives of Sengel to his office on 20.4.2022. But under some terrible conspiracy, a day before the scheduled date of the programme we were informed that permission was not granted. The action was a big humiliation for Santal representatives coming from the country and abroad. While we are not allowed to organize a rally, another party was allowed to organize a big rally on May 5,” Murmu wrote, asking whether it was not biased towards tribal people.
In his letter, Murmu provided details about the situation that led to his writing.
“Despite the constitutional protections for the tribe, the majority of the executive (IAS /IPS etc.) who work under the constitution’s oath have a nearly anti-tribal mentality. Two times, the tribe’s guardian and the governor of Jharkhand have been asked to take the proper measures following an investigation. But as of present, it appears that nothing has been done,” the letter states.
