Jamshedpur, Sept 29: A fresh low pressure originating from the Bay of Bengal triggered rain in several parts of Jharkhand and neighbouring Bengal since last night.
Synoptic condition suggests that under the influence of a cyclonic circulation over northeast and east-central Bay of Bengal, a low-pressure area has formed over northwest Bay of Bengal and coastal areas of West Bengal.
The cyclonic circulation which helped in the formation of the low pressure was extending upto mid-tropospheric level on Wednesday.
Several places in southern, central and eastern parts of Jharkhand including Jamshedpur and Ranchi witnessed overcast condition and intermittent rains due to the low pressure.
An alert of heavy to very heavy rain at isolated places over southern and central parts of Jharkhand was issued for today.
Heavy rain at isolated places over central and western parts of Jharkhand was also expected to take place on Thursday, September 30.
The monsoon season in its last phase has gathered pace in September due to back-to-back cyclonic circulations and low pressure.
The seasonal rains calculated between the four monsoon months from June to September are likely to be normal this year, said weathermen.
