Daltonganj, December 3: After the fourth round of counselling, the number of admissions in the first year of the government engineering college at Basoura under Nilamber Pitamberpur block has gone up to 195 from 192 in the third round, said the acting principal Dr Sanjay Kumar Singh.

There are in all 349 seats in the 4 disciplines namely electrical, mechanical, civil and computer science engineering (CSE) which means 154 seats are still vacant.

The acting principal Dr Singh said, “We know we have 195 admissions in our maiden session. We see these admissions as our good start.” He added that in the coming week, they will be having an induction ceremony for the students who have taken admissions in order to know how to go about the engineering studies etc.

Sources said the government engineering college right now has no furniture at all. To a query in this regard, Dr Singh said, “Work is in progress for the procurement of the furniture. We believe in one month or so this furniture issue will be solved.”

Sources said it will take a few months more when classroom teaching in four disciplines will start, till then students will be having online classes.

Dr Singh said, “I had met Palamu DC Anjaneyulu Dodde in connexion with the security of the college and its property. DC spoke to the deputy commandant of the HG (home guard) here and we have now a contingent of 10 HG jawans and officials who keep a 24×7 watch on the college and its property.”
