New Delhi, Sep 15: The Haryana government on Friday ordered the suspension of mobile internet and bulk SMS services in the district for two days after Congress MLA Mamman Khan was detained in connection with the communal violence in Nuh on July 31.
People have been urged to pray on Friday at home “to prevent any disturbance of peace and public order” and Section 144 has been implemented in Nuh until further orders.
According to the order made by Home Department Additional Chief Secretary T V S N Prasad, “This order is issued to prevent any disturbance of peace and public order in the jurisdiction of district Nuh in the state of Haryana and shall be in force with effect from September 15 (10.00 am) to September 16 (11.59 pm).”
“It has been brought to my notice by Deputy Commissioner, Nuh, vide his request dated September 14 that there is an apprehension of causing tension, annoyance, agitation, damage of public and private property and disturbance of public peace and tranquillity in the district,” Prasad said.
Mamman Khan, a Haryana Congress MLA who was listed as a suspect in the communal unrest that broke out in Nuh in August, was taken into custody on Thursday.
There was “ample evidence” of his involvement in the violence that followed a Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) yatra, according to Haryana Police.
The hearing was set on October 19 after the MLA from Ferozepur Jhirka sought the Punjab and Haryana High Court on Tuesday to request protection from arrest.
Mamman stated he was wrongly accused of being involved in the incident because he wasn’t even in Nuh on the day that the violence started.
The Congress leader was identified as an accused after a “proper evaluation of the evidence,” the Haryana Police told the court. Additionally, they claimed that the police had call logs and other supporting data as proof.
Mamman will be presented in the court today.
