Husband guns down pregnant wife in Hazaribagh, arrested

Hazaribagh, Sept 28: A man gunned down his 20-year-old pregnant wife Puja Kumari after her parents failed to meet his demand of cash as a part of dowry. The incident took place in Napokhurd village in Barkagaon block on Tuesday night. Officer-in-charge of Barkagaon police station Vinod Tirkey said that they have arrested Shashi Kumar, husband of Puja Kumari. An FIR has been lodged against him.

Relatives of the slain woman Puja said they were married on June 15 this year after which Shashi and his parents started demanding Rs 6 lakh. They said Puja went to see puja pandals in the village last night. After returning home, both started quarreling. Soon Shashi took out a country made pistol and fired at his wife who sustained bullet injuries in her stomach. Puja died on the spot.

Villagers informed Puja’s parents and the Barkagaon police. An empty bullet was also found from the place of occurrence. By that time, relatives of Puja started rampaging Shashi’s house and set ablaze some household items. Police came into action and pacified the agitators assuring of proper action. Later, Shashi was arrested from the village. Tirkey said they have started their investigation and recovered empty bullet.
