New Delhi, Oct 26: Arvind Kejriwal, the chief minister of Delhi, urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday to print the pictures of Goddess Lakshmi and Lord Ganesh on new currency notes.

On one side of the new currency notes, he proposed, there might be a picture of Mahatma Gandhi, and on the other, there could be pictures of Goddess Lakshmi and Lord Ganesh.

According to Kejriwal, the country will prosper if there are pictures of the two deities on the currency notes.

“Despite making efforts, sometimes our efforts do not fructify if gods and goddesses are not blessing us. I appeal to PM Modi to have photos of Lord Ganesha and Goddess Lakshmi on our currency notes,” he said.

“If the gods are on the currency notes, the entire country will get their blessings. Lakshmi is the goddess of prosperity and Lord Ganesha is a god who keeps away troubles,” added Kejriwal.

He continued by saying that there is no need to bring back the current currency notes because the images of the idols may be added to the new currencies that are created each month. He continued by saying that it would gradually spread throughout the population.

Using Indonesia as an example, Kejriwal claimed that despite the nation’s small (less than 2% of the total population) Hindu population, Lord Ganesha is depicted on its banknotes. Kejriwal opined, “I think this is a tremendous initiative that the Central government should take up.”
