Jamshedpur, June 24: A 15-member team of NDRF today fished out the body of a 17-year-old boy from the Kharkai river along the Bagbera thana area following hours-long search.
The deceased identified as Prince Kumar Gupta, who was a resident of Burmamines locality of the city, had drowned at Baroda Ghat of the river while taking bath there along with four of his friends on Thursday evening.
After the drowning incident, the friends had informed the victim’s parents leading them to intimate about the tragedy to the Bagbera police. As the police could not trace the body despite engaging local divers, the OC, Bagbera thana, Kaushelendra Kumar Jha informed Senior SP M Tamil Vanan requesting the service of NDRF to locate the body.
According to police, after the interference of Vanan and East Singhbhum Deputy Commissioner Vijaya Jadhav, a team of NDRF came from Ranchi on Friday morning and ultimately the body was recovered from the river.
According to relatives, Prince was the only child of Shravan Gupta who works as a security guard here in the steel city.
“Despite earning a paltry amount, Shravan Gupta had arranged for his son’s study in Allahabad. Prince had passed matriculation having secured 64 percent marks recently and had come to his parents’ place here in Burmamines just four days ago,” said the relative while speaking to the media.
According to a relative, Prince had already taken bath at home at noon but had come out from there after his friends visited his house late in the afternoon.
“All the five friends set out from Prince’s house in a jubilant mood for merry-making, but who knew they would go over to Baroda Ghat, about two km away, for taking bath in the river,” quipped the relative.
The police have sent the body to the MGM medical college mortuary for postmortem having registered a case of unnatural death.
