Ranchi, June 2: Ghazal singer Mrinalini Akhouri from Jharkhand has been nominated for the Nelson Mandela Nobel Peace Prize for the year 2022. She is being given this honour by the Nelson Mandela Nobel Peace Award Academy (NMNPAA) for her outstanding contribution to music and social work.
She will be the first woman from Jharkhand to receive this award. At the same time, on June 11, she will also be awarded an honorary doctorate by Saint Mother Teresa University. She will be given this honour at the Hari Niwas Palace in Jammu and Kashmir.
Born in Bihar’s Aurangabad, Mrinalini Akhouri was interested in music since childhood. She is the younger daughter of Akhouri Pramod Krishna and Manju Bala. Her father was very impressed with her singing skills from a young age. Mrinalini took her early education in classical music from Manjhil Pathak and Dinesh Pandey. At the same time, she received the education of Ghazal singing from Sunil Pathak. She holds an MA in Classical Music.
Mrinalini thanked everyone for this honour during an interview. He said that she is respected for being constantly engaged in music and social service. She has dedicated this award to those music lovers who always encouraged her.
She added that apart from her family, the Jharkhand government has always supported her. She also shared her experience of sharing the stage with Bollywood singer Anuradha Paudwal on the occasion of the first Jharkhand Foundation Day.
Mrinalini is currently working as a music teacher in Ranchi Women’s College and has also been associated with Akashvani as a Ghazal singer for a long time. She said that through the Tarannum Sangeet Sansthan in Ranchi, which is registered with Prayag Sangeet Samiti and the Government of Jharkhand, many new talents are coming up and the future of music is bright.
Mrinalini came to Ranchi with her family in the year 1999. Since then, she has participated in many commercial programmes. This earned her a lot of fame. She considers Kokila Lata Mangeshkar and Mohammad Rafi as her role models. She is also greatly influenced by Ghazal singers like Jagjit Singh, Ghulam Ali, Hariharan and Chandan Das.
