JSLPS to hold workshop on witchcraft awareness today in Ranchi

Ranchi, Dec 21: Jharkhand State Livelihood Promotion Society (SSLPS) will hold a workshop today at the State Institute of Rural Development in Hehal on ways to get rid of the state of witchcraft practises. Dr Ravi Ranjan, Chief Justice of the Jharkhand High Court, will open the two-day event.

Justice Dr Aparesh Kumar Singh and Padma Shri awardee and social worker Chhutni Devi will also address the workshop. Rural development Secretary Dr Manish Ranjan will throw light on the work being done to eradicate witchcraft in the state through Garima Project.

Nancy Sahay, CEO of JSLPS said, “Through this workshop, organizations working against witchcraft will get an opportunity to make special strategies. Many representatives from the various departments, including women and child development department and Jharkhand Police will be participating in the workshop.”

JSLPS is working in seven districts for the cause. The aim of the Garima Project is to establish a civilized society and to give a dignified life to every woman by eliminating social evils like witchcraft through economic and social development of the women, especially in the rural belts.

This initiative is working to connect the victims of witchcraft in the state to the mainstream through counseling , legal aid, psychological counseling and other assistance.

Earlier when National Women Commission’s Chairperson  Rekha Sharma was on a three day visit from December 9-11 in Ranchi, she had highlighted witch hunting as a key issue for women in the state and urged the state government to take appropriate steps to create awareness and eradicate this social evil.
