Ranchi, Jan 4: The Income Tax Department has urged people to link their PAN (Permanent Account Number) with Aadhar card before March 31, 2022. If not done before the last date, the Permanent Account Number will be deactivated. After this, for linking PAN with Aadhaar, account holders may have to pay a fine of up to Rs 10,000. The reason for this is that if a person produces a PAN card which is not valid, the Assessing Officer can order payment of a personal fine of up to Rs 10,000 under section 272N of the Income Tax Act. Not only this, after the PAN is deactivated, one may have to face difficulties in opening a bank account as well as investing in mutual funds and shares.
To link the PAN and Aadhaar number, one must visit the Income Tax department’s website. They will then have to enter the name given in the Aadhar card, PAN number and Aadhaar number. After this, they may tick the square if only the birth year is mentioned on the Aadhar card. After entering captcha code, one may click the ‘Link Aadhaar’ button, thus linking their PAN with Aadhaar card.
If one is not able to link their PAN with Aadhaar online, they can also link it through SMS. For this one needs to type UIDPAN on their phone. After this, the 12-digit Aadhaar number will have to be written. Then enter the 10 digit PAN number. Now send the message to 567678 or 56161.
If one’s PAN has been deactivated, it can be activated again through an SMS. For this, enter the 10 digit PAN number from your registered mobile, enter the 12 digit Aadhaar number by giving space and send the message to 567678 or 56161.
