Jamshedpur, Oct 18: The workers involved in maintenance and other allied activities at the XLRI, a premier B- school in Jamshedpur, staged a protest today demanding their outstanding payment and also taking back 15 workers who were recently removed by the vendor company.
The workers refused to work under a vendor and wanted their re-instatement in XLRI rolls.
The agitated workers staged a dharna at the main gate of XLRI located in the Circuit House Area.
The protest of the workers was supported by the local unit of JMM.
“We have given a 24 hour ultimatum to the XLRI management for regularising the service of the 15 workers who have been recently removed. We have been working directly under XLRI ever since our appointment. But, the B-School administration appointed a vendor in 2013. The vendor was again changed in 2018 when Delhi-based Krishna Facility Management Services was appointed. We are facing many problems under the vendor and hence we want XLRI management’s intervention,” said Samir Das, one of the workers leading the agitation.
Another protesting worker Surai Manjhi said that they have not been given the annual bonus this year.
“Apart from this several workers failed to get their last month’s salary,” he said alleging that the XLRI management fails to pay heed to their problems.
Sources said that initially, around 130 workers including men and women were engaged in various maintenance and allied activities – electricians, carpenters and electricians. But, their strength gradually reduced to 85 now.
Despite repeated attempts, no one from the B-School administration and the private vendor was available for any comments on the issue.
