Jamshedpur, July 29: A 44-year-old man who was a resident of Bhatia Bustee in Kadma was killed in a landslide during Amarnaath Yatra in Jammu and Kashmir on July 26.
Identified as Haradhan Saini, the victim had embarked upon the strenuous Yatra for performing Jalabhishek of Lord Shiva along with his wife and sister-in-law on July 19.
The three had boarded a train at Tatanagar station in the evening to reach Srinagar in two days. At Srinagar, they took rest for a day and had begun the Yatra to the sacred shrine for the Jalabhishek which they performed successfully.
The tragedy struck while they were climbing down to the base camp from the shrine located at an altitude of 3,888 meters in the hilly Anantnag district in Jammu and Kashmir late in the evening of July 26.
The landslide occurred at about 7.30 pm when the three were just three kms away from the camp. During the landslide, wife Ambika and sister-in-law Pratima were together as Haradhan was at a little ahead of them. Haradhan was traceless after the landslide was over, leading the two women to inform the Army at the camp.
Next morning a search operation began and eventually Haradhan was found lying dead under a huge boulder.
The Jammu and Kashmir administration arranged the flight for the bereaved persons along with the body bag upto the Ranchi airport on Friday. Subsequently, the body was carried by road to Tata Main Hospital’s mortuary by the evening. Today cremation has to scheduled to be held at Parvati Ghat in Bistupur.
Father of two grown-up children, Haradhan would earn a living by selling Dosha on a push-cart near the house of health minister Banna Gupta.
