Jamshedpur, June 24:  Though the maximum temperature has dropped below 40 degrees Celsius in all districts across Jharkhand but the discomfort index continues to be high in most places.

The discomfort index which is dependent on heat, humidity, air and other factors was found to be very high in southern and north-western parts of the state.

The level of discomfort index was found to be eight to nine points above normal in Palamau and Kolhan regions.

” We are finding a peculiarity in this year’s weather system. Every year after monsoon’s onset the discomfort index witnesses an abrupt fall. Probably, this year because of a weak monsoon resulting in insufficient rain the discomfort index was still high, ” said a duty officer at Ranchi Meteorological Centre.

Conditions are favourable for further advance of the southwest monsoon over some more parts of Chhattisgarh, remaining parts of Jharkhand & Bihar, some parts of east Madhya Pradesh, some more parts of Uttar Pradesh and some parts of Uttarakhand during the next 24- hours.

The Northern Limit of Monsoon (NLM) was today passing through Ratnagiri, Bijapur, Nizamabad, Durg, Daltonganj and Buxar.

The cyclonic circulation over Westcentral and adjoining Northwest Bay of Bengal was lying over the Northwest Bay of Bengal adjoining north Odisha-West Bengal coasts extending up to 7.6 Km above mean sea level tilting southwestwards with height.
