New Delhi, Oct 3: The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) busted an international smuggling racket in three states in a coordinated multi-agency operation. The secret service has seized drugs worth Rs 2.36 crore in Mumbai.
Acting on certain information, DRI Mumbai officials seized 3.5 kg of hydroponics from a postal consignment from the US, which was prepared as ‘food’ at the Mumbai foreign post office. The said “grocery store” was sent to Hyderabad in Telangana.
Further investigations revealed that the cartel was operating in different states and the consignment had to be exchanged in Delhi instead of being sent to the receiving address in Hyderabad. Surveillance was maintained and two people, including the cartel chief, were arrested in Hyderabad.
Further investigation revealed the use of the dark web to place the order from the US and the use of cryptocurrency to pay for it.
In this case, a total of 5.3 kg of ganja (hydroponic weed) valued at 2.36 billion rupees including 1.8 kg from Delhi was recovered and confiscated from the illegal market.
