Dhanbad, July 20: Despite getting bail from the Jharkhand High Court in alleged extortion cases, News 11 Bharat head Arup Chatterjee was sent to judicial custody again on Wednesday in a case of running a fraudulent chit fund company.

The police on Wednesday produced him in the court of chief judicial magistrate Sanjay Kumar Singh in the afternoon and demanded custody for interrogation in six years old chit fund company case.  The court sent him to 14 days of judicial custody.

Chatterjee was arrested by Dhanbad police on Monday from an apartment in Ranchi in connection with extortion demand and blackmailing after an FIR was lodged by a coal trader Rakesh Kumar.

He was produced in front of magistrate Vishal Raj and was sent to judicial custody on Monday evening. Senior lawyer Shahnawz  who appeared for Arup Chatterjee in court today told media persons that he has filed a bail application in court and hearing would be held on Thursday.

On Tuesday, Jharkhand High Court granted bail to Arup Chatterjee. He was set to be released from Dhanbad jail on Wednesday but police arrested him in six years old case of chit-fund fraud and produced him in court for remand.

Dhanbad resident Manoj Pandit lodged an FIR in 2016 at Putki police against  Chatterjee, the director of Care Group of Company and Rakesh Sinha for cheating the money in name of chit fund deposit scheme.

Manoj was an agent of the company and got several persons to deposit the money at a higher interest rate. But when the policy matured company refused to return money to investors. Rattled by depositors’ pressure the agent Manoj Pandit Filed FIR against Arup Chatterjee for swindling over Rs 9 lakh.

Arup Chatterjee, the resident of Bhuli township of Dhanbad had opened Care Group of Company in partnership with Rakesh in Dhanbad and opened an office in Bank More.
