Ranchi, April 25: As many as 9,653 driving licenses in Ranchi got suspended from January 2021 to March 2022 for violating different traffic rules including triple riding, riding without a helmet and rash driving.
During a rough survey by a lagatar24.com correspondent across the city, it was found that commuters are unaware of the fact that a driving license gets suspended for a period of 3 months on violation of traffic rules.
At the same time, they were also unaware of the fact that on 3 traffic rules violations in a month the driving license can be permanently cancelled. In such a case a commuter will have to reapply for a driving license.
District Transport Officer Praveen Kumar Prakash said that going according to the rules of the Motor Vehicle Act, the driving license of the traffic rules violator is cancelled for a period of 3 months.
A total of 8141 driving licenses were cancelled in the year 2021, out of which 108 were cancelled for rash driving which comes under section 190 of the MV Act, 1744 were cancelled for riding without a helmet which comes under section 194 D of MV Act and 6289 were cancelled for triple riding which comes under section 194 C of MV Act.
“If the commuters violate traffic rules three times in a month then the driving license gets permanently cancelled. However, no driving was cancelled during the year 2021,” said the DTO.
At the same time, many fake licensees are also coming to the fore during the investigation process of traffic rule violations. Fake driving licenses are being prepared for just Rs 500 to Rs 1000 in which someone else’s card is scanned and the fake card is prepared by putting the other’s name, address and even a fake chip on the card. However, these cards get caught as traffic policemen are equipped with an e-POS machine which can give the details of the particular driving license immediately.
On the fake driving license issue, DTO Praveen Kumar Prakash said that it is a case of forgery and actions are taken against such people who produce fake licenses during traffic rule violations.
From January 2021 to March 2022, as many as 9653 driving licenses were suspended. The following list shows how many licenses were suspended in a particular month:

An expert said that along with fining traffic violators and suspension of their license, the transport department should strengthen its rules and regulations in such a way that no one gets a driving license without passing the driving test.
“There are several incidences where the commuters get the driving license by just paying money to some brokers who provide driving license without any test. At the same time, the transport department has implemented many traffic rules tests before getting the license but brokers have found loopholes in that also and are providing the license to the commuters without any kind of test. Proper implementation of such rules will definitely help in curbing the cases of traffic rules violations the commuters will be completely aware of all the traffic rules,” he added.
