Daltonganj, Nov 18: Palamu police recovered two country-made guns, eight live cartridges, one four-wheeler and three cell phones and arrested four persons who were remanded in judicial custody today. Palamu SP Chandan Kumar Sinha today held a press briefing over this.
The arrested persons are Subhash Kumar, Firoz, Touheed and Anand. All of them hail from Ramna under the Garhwa district.
Police said the recovery of weapons and ammunition was made from the four-wheeler (Scorpio) on Thursday.
Police have begun an investigation to find out for what purpose or how these two country-made guns and live ammunition were with the persons who described themselves as going to Rohtas to hand over these illicit arms.
They are also working out to know who in the Garhwa district gave them these weapons and if they are for supply or for wiping out a petty loan.
Police are further verifying if these two illicit arms and 8 live rounds were in lieu of a loan taken by Subhash Kumar from a man known by the name Babban in Rohtas who had assured to waive the loan of Rs 15,000 if Subhash Kumar reached him the illicit arms and cartridges.
SDPO Hussainabad Pujya Prakash said the version of Subhash Kumar regarding arms ammunition for waiving of his loan from the Rohtas man looks more a fiction than fact.
Subhash Kumar is stated to be a B.Ed aspirant while the other three are his friends.
Police said the recovery was made in a routine road checking under the Deori outpost. It is the first such recovery of in road checking in the second half of 2022.
