Pulwama, May 7: With the arrest of a terrorist associate in Pulwama and the discovery of an IED (Improvised Explosive Device) weighing between 5 and 6 kg, the Jammu and Kashmir Police prevented a serious tragedy, the police said on Sunday.

Ishfaq Ahmed Wani, a resident of Arigam in Pulwama, was recognised as the terrorist associate who had been apprehended, according to the police.

The police have registered a case into the matter.

“Pulwama Police averted a major tragedy by apprehending a #terror associate Ishfaq Ahmed Wani R/O Arigam #Pulwama and recovering an #IED (approx 5-6Kgs) on his disclosure. Case registered,” Kashmir Zone Police tweeted on Sunday afternoon.

The matter is being looked into more thoroughly.

An extensive search operation to find terrorists in Rajouri, Jammu and Kashmir, which started on Friday, continued on Sunday.

“Search operation to track down terrorists underway in the Kandi area of Rajouri,” officials said.

On May 5, a counterterrorism operation in Rajouri, Jammu and Kashmir, resulted in the unfortunate deaths of five soldiers in total.

The five soldiers passed away during “Operation Trinetra,” a joint anti-terror effort by the CRPF, Jammu and Kashmir Police, and the Indian Army.
