Dumka, Feb 21: Marking a new twist in the rampant illegal mining being carried out in different pockets of the district, District Mining Officer (DMO) Krishna Kumar Kisku has come forward to accuse the police administration of having a lenient approach towards the mining mafias.
Expressing his helplessness to check the ongoing menace of illegal mining of miners and major minerals, Kisku has raised points against the role of the police and alleged that police did not ever initiate suitable legal action against those named in FIRs lodged by his department.
“Mining mafias care a damn about the FIRs subsequently being lodged against them for indulging in the illegal mining being carried on a large scale in Shikaripara and other pockets of the district, for the police did not ever initiate legal recourse or for that matter arrest them all despite been named therein,” Kisku said.
He said that there were altogether 60 FIRs lodged by the district mining department in different police stations including Shikaripara, Kathikund and Gopikandar in which the police failed to arrest anyone including the named accused.
“It’s not only the mining department that can check illegal mining on its own but all the stakeholders should have a coordinated approach to undo the practice which is causing huge loss to the state exchequer,” the DMO remarked claiming to have apprised top civil and police authorities of the district.
Notably, the state government is facing large scale criticisms against the illegal mining of coal, stones and sand taking place in Santhal Pargana, the home turf of Chief Minister Hemant Soren, with direct accusations being levelled by the opposition BJP against him and his younger brother Basant Soren for patronising the same.
As such, the open admission of helplessness by the DMO to check the illegal mining activities in the district and pointing fingers at the local police is all set to even embrace the current dispensation.
