Jamshedpur, July 18: A gang of three criminals decamped with Rs 24,000 from the account of a private security guard at an ATM in Pardih under Azadnagar thana area in Mango on Tuesday.
Identified as Ratanlal, the security guard had gone to the ATM for withdrawing money, but the ATM card was trapped in the machine. Subsequently, as the victim was pondering how to retrieve the card, three youths who were around appeared at the ATM and extended a helping hand to him.
Having come to the ATM, two of the youths introduced the third one to be an engineer and claimed he would sort out the problem.
Then the so-called engineer asked Ratanlal to go home on the plea that it will take considerable time for the retrieval of the card. The ‘engineer’ also promised the security guard to deliver the card to his home after the problem is resolved.
Believing the said engineer a bonafide person, Ratanlal started to move toward his house located away in Nimdih block. But hardly had the security guard covered halfway to his home, an alert message came to his mobile phone, informing that Rs 24,000 debited from his account.
On getting the message, Ratanlal rode back to the Pardih-based ATM and found no one present there.
Immediately after, the security guard approached the Azadnagar thana and lodged an FIR alleging fraud against him.
On being asked, the Azadnagar police said this is a case of cybercrime and the case is being investigated.
