Ranchi, Feb 9: Over 150 street vendors, who have been forced to shut their shops after the government imposed Section 144 at Morhabadi ground following the shootout incident last month, protested against the municipal corporation by forming a human chain at the football stadium in Morhabadi.

The street vendors have accused the Ranchi Municipal Corporation of breaching the promise of providing land for opening the shops.

The shopkeepers said that all the shopkeepers are demonstrating their solidarity against the corporation by forming a human chain.

Morhabadi Shopkeepers Association President Roshan Kumar said that a human chain is being formed against Ranchi Municipal Corporation for not keeping up to their promise of allocating land for the opening of the shops.

“One can see that all the shopkeepers are united and they have come here in search of their livelihood and we demand that we should be given a place as soon as possible. Our livelihood is closed for 13 days and we should be given a place here as soon as possible so that we can open our shops. We have come to the point of starvation, so the corporation is requested to do the work of fixing our livelihood as soon as possible,” Kumar said.

On Tuesday in Morhabadi, the shopkeepers did the ‘bhoomi pujan’ at the place allotted by the Ranchi Municipal Corporation.

After this, when the shopkeepers were setting up shops, the Additional Municipal Commissioner of the Municipal Corporation, Kunwar Singh Pahan reached with the force and stopped the shifting of the shops.
