New Delhi, May 10: Legendary musician and santoor player Pandit Shivkumar Sharma passed away on Tuesday at the age of 84. Notably, Pandit Shivkumar Sharma received the Padma Shri in 1991, and the Padma Vibhushan in 2001.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi expresses condolences on the passing away of eminent Santoor player.

Pandit Shivkumar Sharma, a Jammu native, began learning santoor at the age of thirteen. In 1955, he gave his first public concert in Mumbai. Pandit Shivkumar Sharma is the man who is credited with popularising the santoor. In the 1956 film Jhanak Jhanak Payal Baje, Pandit Shivkumar Sharma created the background music for one of the scenes. Pandit Shivkumar Sharma recorded his debut solo CD four years later.
In 1967, Pandit Shivkumar Sharma, flautist Hariprasad Chaurasia, and guitarist Brij Bhushan Kabra collaborated on the critically acclaimed concept album Call of the Valley.
